A door is a program a caller runs from a menu: a game, a utility, or a link to another service. ProBoard v4 runs four kinds.
| Kind | What it is | Page |
|---|---|---|
| Native doors | 32-bit and 64-bit Windows programs. ProBoard starts them directly and hands them the caller's connection. | Native Windows doors |
| DOS doors | 16-bit DOS games and tools, run through PBLegacy and DOSBox-X. | DOS doors |
| Door networks | Plug-ins that connect the caller to a game hosted elsewhere: BBSLink, DoorParty and Skull Crash. They need no door program on your machine. | Door networks |
| Plug-ins | Programs written for ProBoard itself (.P3X files). | Plug-ins and the SDK |
All doors are started from a menu item (see Menus and commands). Door definitions live in DOORS.PRO, which you edit in Network > Door Configuration in PBConfig.
Every node has its own folder, NODEDIR\NODE<n>, where its drop files and scratch files go, so two callers playing the same door at once never share a drop file.
