File areas

Areas > File Areas in PBConfig lists your file areas, one row for each, with its number, Name, File Location (the folder on disk) and Level (the security level needed to use it).

An area has a number, a name, a folder on disk, a listing and an access rule. The sample board installs one area, Example File Area, with its folder under FILES.

The listing

Each area has a FILES.BBS-style listing: one entry for each file with a description. Only files that are in the listing and also exist on disk are shown to callers. This is true for FTP too: nothing else on your disk can be seen or named.

After adding files by hand, update the listing. The FI mode of PBUtil rebuilds the index.

Who can see an area

A caller sees an area only if their security level and flags allow it. This also decides which folders appear over FTP, where each area is shown as “<number> - <name>”.

Free areas

An area can be marked free. Files in a free area, and any file that matches a line in FREEFILE.CTL, are never charged against a caller's limit or ratio. They still count as a download. See Download rules.

Uploads

The sample board has an upload folder, FILES\UPLOADS.
