PBUtil is the ProBoard maintenance utility, ported from the 16-bit PBUTIL. Run it from a command prompt in the install folder. Always stop the nodes first when a mode rewrites the user file or a message base.
PBUtil <mode> [options] PBUtil <mode> ?
The second form prints the options for that mode.
| Mode | Name | What it does |
|---|---|---|
UP | User Packer | Removes users marked as deleted from the user file, except users flagged “no kill”. -R resets the last-read pointers to 0. -K deletes the .BAK files afterward. |
US | Userfile Sort | Sorts the user file. |
UK | User Killer | Deletes inactive users. -C<n> deletes users with fewer than n calls. -D<d> deletes users who have not called for d days. -L<level> limits the work to one level. |
UF | Userfile Fix | Repairs the user file. |
UI | Userfile Indexer | Rebuilds the user index. |
MP | Messagebase Packer | Packs message bases. -R renumbers, -D deletes old messages, -F forces the pack, -K deletes .BAK files, -H packs Hudson only, -J packs JAM only. |
MI | Messagebase Reindexer | Rebuilds the indexes of Hudson and JAM bases. |
ML | Message Linker | Rebuilds the reply chains of Hudson bases. |
FC | File Counters | Reads LOGS\DOWNLOAD.LOG and updates each file's download counter, and writes the top-download lists. -N<x> writes the top x (default 10). -F forces writing of the top list. -R rewrites all file areas. |
FI | FILES.BBS reindex | Rebuilds the file index. |
NC | Nodelist Compiler | Compiles nodelists, for example PBUtil NC fsxnet funlist. |

DM | Daily maintenance | The daily jobs. -H also writes users' aliases in TOPS.PB. It cleans up TAGLIST.PB too. |
HF | Hatch Personal File | Sends files to a user's personal-file area. -T=Name (required) names the recipient, -F=Name the sender, -D deletes the files afterward, -C copies them to the personal files directory. |
MU | Music Player | Plays music files. |
Underscores can be used in user names instead of spaces. File names can include paths and wildcards.
Every run is logged, with the mode and the result.
Several of these modes rewrite the user file or a message base. Stop all nodes first, and take a copy of the data folder. See Backups.
