Programs

Every program in a ProBoard v4 installation, what it does and how it starts. The architecture picture is on the Introduction page.

Core

Program	Kind	What it is
`ProBoard.exe`	Console window, one for each caller	The BBS engine. One copy runs for each caller (a node): logon and new-user signup, menus (including “/” commands), message bases (Hudson, JAM, Squish), file areas, transfers, doors.
`PBDispatch.exe`	Windows program that stays running	The front door and supervisor. It listens for callers on Telnet (23), RLogin (513) and its native SSH server (22), starts a ProBoard node for each caller, starts and watches the other programs, and shows what is going on.
`PBConfig.exe`	Windows program	One window for every setting. Replaces the old PROCFG.

Program	Kind	What it is
`PBMailer.exe`	Short-lived	FidoNet mailer: BinkP and EMSI sessions, answering or calling, file exchange with Zmodem.
`PBToss.exe`	Batch job	The tosser and scanner. Moves arrived mail into message bases and packs new mail for your links.
`PBTic.exe`	Batch job	File-echo processor. A file that arrives with a `.TIC` goes into the right file area.
`PBqwk.exe`	Batch job	QWK network client. `-poll` fetches packets from a hub, `-pack` builds and sends your outgoing mail.
`PBQwkHub.exe`	Stays running	The PBLink hub. It has its own FTP server for member boards.

`PBWeb.exe`	Short-lived	The web portal.
`PBFtelnet.exe`	Short-lived	The bridge that lets the browser terminal reach the board through a WebSocket.
`PBFtp.exe`	Short-lived	FTPS download server for the file areas.
`PBNntp.exe`	Short-lived	News server so a newsreader or PBMessages can read and post.
`PBSshBridge.exe`	Stays running	The old SSH bridge that relied on Windows OpenSSH. Replaced by the native SSH server in PBDispatch.

Program	What it is
`PBTerm.exe`	Terminal program for calling any BBS: Telnet, RLogin and SSH, ANSI, RIP and retro terminals, file transfers, a phonebook.
`PBMessages.exe`	A desktop message reader. It reads local JAM bases directly and talks to PBNntp over NNTP with TLS.

`PBLegacy.exe`	Runs 16-bit DOS door games through DOSBox-X.

`PBUtil.exe`	The maintenance toolbox ported from the original PBUTIL: 15 modes including user packer, user sort, user killer, user fix, user index and message base packer.
`PBAvatar.exe`	A command-line tool to manage message avatars: list, show, set, import, export, remove and hide.

Program	What it is
`PBInstall.exe`	The installer and updater.
`PBMigrate.exe`	Imports FastEcho and Internet Rex settings.
`PBMigHelper.exe`	A 32-bit collector that runs on the old system and packs its settings into one zip. Installed in the `Tools` folder.
`PBRelease.exe`	The publisher's tool for update packages and BBS lists. Never shipped to sysops.

Some files must stay next to the programs:

File	Needed by
`ssh.dll`	PBDispatch (SSH server) and PBTerm (SSH client). They will not start without it.
`libcrypto-3-x64.dll` (or `libcrypto-3.dll` on 32-bit)	`ssh.dll`, PBFtp and PBNntp.
`libssl-3-x64.dll` (or `libssl-3.dll`)	PBFtp and PBNntp, for encrypted FTP and news.

PBTerm and PBDispatch share these files in the same folder, so keep them from the same build.
