ProBoard 2.x (16-bit) documentation

The documentation for the 16-bit versions of ProBoard (up to version 2.30) is preserved as a historical archive. It describes the DOS program and the tools that went with it, and it remains the best reference for how those versions worked.

Introduction

ProBoard v4 is a bulletin board system (BBS) for Windows. It is a from-scratch Win32/x64 port of ProBoard, the BBS originally written in Borland C++ for 16-bit DOS. The port keeps the original engine's behavior and its on-disk data formats wherever possible and replaces everything DOS-specific (console I/O, file locking, door spawning, the plug-in interface) with native Windows equivalents.

What's new in v4

ProBoard v4 keeps what made ProBoard the board you know (its menus, security model, message and file areas and data formats) and adds a great deal around it. This page lists what is new or different compared with ProBoard 2.x. Each item will link to its own section of this wiki as those sections are published.
